Abstract

This research project aims to comprehend the role of the Freudian concept of uncanny (Unheimlich) in the review made by Theodor Adorno about fascism. Through this concept we will try to understand how Adorno analyzes the development of the authoritarian personality and its relation with group manipulation by fascist leaders. We will investigate how Adorno mobilizes the mentioned concept and its consequences in the analysis of important Freud’s texts such as 'Civilization and its discontents' and 'The future of an illusion', to understand the manipulation of repressed instincts involved in the persistence of barbarism.
