Abstract

Scapular dyskinesis refers to alterations in the considered "normal pattern" of scapular movement. It is possible that scapular dyskinesis is related to proprioceptive alterations. Furthermore, past studies on subjects with shoulder disorders have identified that subjects with scapular dyskinesis present greater deficits on the upper limb performance than those without scapular dyskinesis. The aim of this study is to investigate whether there are alterations on shoulder proprioception (joint position sense submodality) and upper limb physical performance of healthy subjects with scapular dyskinesis. Thirty-four subjects, both genders, with no history of upper limbs disorders will be included. Scapular dyskinesis will be assessed through visual inspection performed by two independent and blinded examiners, while subjects perform arm elevation and lowering movements. Shoulder proprioception will be assessed during an active joint repositioning test. Upper limbs physical performance will be assessed by the Closed Kinetic Chain Upper Extremity Stability Test (CKCUES). The results from the joint repositioning test and CKCUES test will be compared in the presence and absence of scapular dyskinesis.
