Abstract

This research project proposes to extend the work of Balcik and Beamon (2008) to consider risk aversion measures, such as value-at-risk (VaR) and conditional value-at-risk (CVaR), in a facility location model typical of humanitarian logistics settings. Basically, we will use the two-stage stochastic optimization paradigm as our theoretical framework. We intend to solve practical instances based on the megadisaster of the Serrana region of Rio de Janeiro in 2011 in an attempt to analyze the impact of more risky averse solutions in facility planning decisions.
