Comparison of the effects of glycerol and propanediol on cryopreserved testicular tissue of domestic cats: histological evaluation and apoptosis rates

Abstract

We will use testicles from 20 domestic cats undergoing elective orchiectomy. The testes will be weighed and only those presenting weights between 1 and 2 g will be used in the experiment. The testicular tissue will be dissected and cut in small portions of 0,3cm3. Four fragments will be directed evaluate for control (fresh) and eight will be subjected to cryopreservation in Tris-egg yolk Equex STM medium supplemented with 3% glycerol or propanediol 3%, by the fast freezing technique. After thawing, the fragments will be evaluated by histology and for apoptosis rate and compared with the fresh ones.
