Intellectual and academic field: the influence of Raymond Aron thought (1905-1983) in the consolidation of international relations in PPGRI-UnB

Abstract

The research project is inserted in the theme of intellectuals and their relationships with the academic field and society, and its study specific object is the reception of the philosopher's work and French sociologist Raymond Aron (1905-1983) in the field International Relations at the University of Brasilia. We chose the Graduate Program in International Relations at the University of Brasilia (PPGRI-UNB) as the locus for the case study, since it is the first Brazilian university so much to offer undergraduate (1974) and Graduate (1985) in International Relations, and by the fact that the concepts formulated by Aron have obtained at this university an ready and broad incorporation. Thus, the objective is to articulate the incorporation of the concepts formulated by Raymond Aron, especially in the seminal works Guerra e Paz entre as Nações ([1962] 1986) and Pensar a Guerra, Clausewitz ([1976] 1986), in the Brazilian field of studies of the International Relations, taking as material of analysis the dissertations and theses presented to PPGRI-UNB in the period 1987-2016. It intends to, in effect, to understand the reasons that orientated the teachers, students and researchers from PPGRI-UNB to adopt the work of Aron, and other liberal authors, as a priority bibliography to this Program, a fact that seems to be inserted in context academic and also ideological-political of the 1970s and 1980s, as can be inferred for the translation and publication, by Editora UNB, of various liberal and conservative writers in the Coleção Pensamento Político (including himself Raymond Aron). As final result, is expected, on the one hand, to problematize the intrinsic relationship between the intellectuals and the consolidation of a field of study and research and, on the other, to analyze the impact of the concepts formulated by an important author in particular in the production of the field in question.
