Abstract

This work will evaluate the effects of the mechanical strength of two kinds of soils by the inclusion of different sizes and percentages of polyethylene and polypropylene fibres. The soil will be used: (a) typical sandy soil in Bauru (SP) and (b) clayey soil in Piracicaba (SP). The fibres will have lengths of 10, 15, 20 and 30 mm and width 1.5 mm. These are randomly added to the soil in pre-determined percentage of 0.25, 0.50, 0.75, 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0% in relation to dry mass. Compaction tests will be carried out (Normal Energy) to obtain the optimal parameters of the soil. Using these values, the specimens will be molded to perform triaxial tests (CD) in soil (with and without fibres). This proposal is complementary to a research already underway (Fapesp Process number: 2016/09677-1). In that way, by comparison of the results, is possible to evaluate the influence that the size and percentage of the fibres can cause in the resistance of the studied soils.
