Abstract

This research internship intends to investigate Horkheimer's Critical Theory in the 1940s, with focus on the Nietzschean procedures implied in his critique of reason. The notion of internalization will be the guiding principle for this investigation, because its effect on the subjectivity formation is taken as the explaining factor for the formalization of reason, for it being reduced to an instrumental activity. This is why this work will address the notions of internalization of the domination (presented in Eclipse of Reason) and of internalization of the sacrifice (elaborated in Dialectic of Enlightenment, written in collaboration with Adorno). It is intended to make explicit how these notions are related to the Nietzschean analysis of the formation of the conscience and of the bad conscience in On the Genealogy of Morality. (AU)
