Abstract

The student's doctoral research aims to investigate factors associated with dementia and cognitive decline in adults with Down syndrome. To achieve this objective the project comprises the validation of The Cambridge examination for mental disorders of older people with Down's syndrome and others with intellectual disabilities (CAMDEX-DS) and uses a research protocol on executive functions. Researchers at the University of Cambridge developed both instruments. The objective of the Research Internship at the Department of Psychiatry of the University of Cambridge is work with the team that developed both the main instruments used in the doctoral research. This group of scientists is considered an international reference in the field of dementia and Down syndrome. During the research fellowship the student will work in a project that includes neuroimaging and biomarkers of Alzheimer's in Down syndrome. The research theme meets the neuropsychological aspects investigated in the student doctoral study. The internship experience and partnership with the University of Cambridge means a valuable opportunity, increasing the student's knowledge in the field and enriching her doctoral study analysis.
