Abstract

The pruning practices and removal of trees of urban areas are responsible for generating large amounts of wood residue commonly intended for dump areas, open-air burning, disposed in landfills and, in some cases, composted. This waste has the potential to be converted into raw material for new products, adding value to them. The Small Wooden Objects are products that can be manufactured from wood waste, have good economic viability and its production can contribute to the emergence of new businesses, generating jobs and income. This study intends to do the physical and chemical characterization of wood from five different species most commonly used in urban forestry in the State of São Paulo, and to develop a line of wooden household utensils, contributing new alternative use of such waste.
