Abstract

The learning of motor skills in childhood is closely related to the experiences in different settings. The learning of fundamental motor skills, including the throw, is inherent to childhood during play. The motor patterns of throw progress through the initial, elementary and mature stages and, for each stage, there are significant changes in the motor strategies. Many studies have investigated muscle activation during throw, but in the most of times they are related to sports context. The aim of this study will be evaluate and compare the electromyographic activity of the shoulder muscles during the development of the overhand throw and check if different demands of throwing task influence the motor strategy adopted. It will be evaluated the age groups of 5 to 7 years, 10 to 13 years and young adults. The subjects will be instructed to perform twenty throws. The throwing will be assessed through electromyographic analysis of the serratus anterior muscles, upper, middle and lower trapezius and middle and anterior deltoid. We expect that the results serve as a measure for initiation of goals to sports training and parameter for understanding the development of children with neuromotor changes. (AU)
