Abstract The "Big Data" era is characterized by the availability of a large amount of data related to a wide variety of phenomena, from human, natural and economical events. In this context, the ability of modeling and understanding the universe around us is closely related to the extraction of knowledge from these datasets.Among the theories and computational tools for extracting data information, the research in the visualization area has sought to combine the computational power of modern machines with the human capacity for visual detection of patterns. In particular, virtual reality technology, increasingly accessible to the average user, has been explored as a tool capable of offering immersive visualization of data. The objective of this project is to explore the use of the virtual world to visualize high dimensional datasets projected into a three-dimensional space of principal components obtained from parameters defined interactively by the user. For the present study we will use the Oculus Rift virtual reality system. The project will also seek to define a methodology for the analysis and evaluation of effectiveness in the visualization of immersive data versus the traditional visualization (on the computer screen) for the extraction of relevant information from the visualized data. | |
