Abstract

Brazilian soybeans yields have steadily risen considerably since the beginning of the green revolution to the present day. Among several factors that contributed to both new technologies and agricultural practices as well as the genetic gain afforded by plant breeding. While soybean yield increased through traditional breeding efforts, morphophysiological modifications in Brazilian cultivars that have contributed to increased yield are largely unknown. Understanding how the morphological and physiological changes increase soybean yield could support new selections of cultivars even more productive in the future. This research will be conducted to evaluate changes in Brazilian old and new soybean cultivars and also evaluate the relationship of FBN with the grain yield. To achieve these objectives will be conduct two experiments with 26 representative soybean cultivars of the South-Central region of Brazil grown between 1960 and 2015. The first experiment will be performed in pots in the greenhouse and the second in the field. The following evaluations will be performed: physiologic, biometrics, nitrogen (N) concentration in the plant, organic and mineral composition of grains and phenology. It is hoped that this research to identify how the selection of Brazilian soybean cultivars changed the morphophysiological attributes over time and its relation to increased yield.
