Abstract

Intensifying uses of pastures have great potential to increase the sustainability of milk production systems. Given the multidisciplinary nature of sustainability, it is necessary an approach that evaluates in addition to technical coefficients of production human and social aspects of farmers and stakeholders. Human capital and social capital, highlighted by social sciences, will be included in the proposed analysis, focused on producers that, a priori, are not members of one of the most important organizations of farmers of the municipality of Dracaena (SP). Contrasting to a previous analysis that had focused on family farms in the same municipality, and it advances since it will incorporate "dairy-beef producers" and also increases the level of detail the grazing subsystem of the farms. Using a worksheet and applying a survey to producers the research will to (a) calculate technical coefficients of the subsystem of animal nutrition; (b) to identify those interested in changing technical coefficients relating to the nutrition of herds that have, particularly through better utilization of pastures; (c) to describe their subsystems of nutrition; (d) to evaluate the role of the pastures for the subsystem of animal nutrition; (e) to obtain data on training of manpower among the producers, and (f) to evaluate the voluntary participation of farmers in rural organizations. It will contribute to obtain the emergy indices, being calculated in other project that covers the present study. (AU)
