Abstract

This project aims to compare the viability and differentiation potential of mesenchymal stem cells (MSC's) derived from adipose tissue of healthy and sick horses - those who exhibit symptoms that require use of stem cell (sick horses). For obtaining adipose tissue-derived stem cells, the fat will be collected from the base of tail. The material will go to the isolation and cell culture which will be ascertained the colony formation potential, the clonogenic potential and differentiation. Lastly, to test the viability, the cell cultures will be subjected to freezing. The results will be analyzed and compared between healthy and diseased animals in order to identify a possible difference in cell culture characteristic, and thus check the advantage of performing autologous transplantation (in the case of stem cells derived from diseased animals) or allogeneic (stem cells derived from healthy animals).
