Abstract

This paper aims to investigate educational practices and the musical repertoire practiced in music courses in Brazilian schools from 1940 to nowadays, trying to identify and discuss this unequal relation between the genders on early childhood education and the first years of elementary school. The patriarchy term refers to a social system that prioritizes relations between men and women, favoring the former. The bibliographic database will be found in articles and books that theorize the concept of gender and patriarchy and the selection of publications includes four important periods of Brazilian musical education. The first period correspond to "Canto Orfeônico" period (decades of 1930, 40 and 50); the second, to the years of the subject "Educação Musical" on 1960's; the third period, to the decades of 1970 to 1990, when "Educação Artística" replaced the subject "Educação Musical" in scholar curriculum; and fourth, to the implementation of the subject "Artes", since 1996. The selection criterion of analysis corpus is based on national comprehensiveness of publications. The methodology is the bibliographic research bringing results based on content analysis procedures.
