Abstract

The oxygen evolution is a very important reaction that concern devices that involve clean and sustainable energy conversion, as such, solar fuel cell and metal-air batteries. Despite the considerable progress in the understanding of OER, it is still necessary to understand the reaction mechanisms and to overcome the kinetics barrier of the, nowadays known, oxygen electrocatalysts. This project goal is to study the effect of transitions metals and alkali-metal cations, such as, Li+, Na+, K+ and Cs+ on nickel hydroxides electrodes for OER. In situ surface enhancement Raman spectroscopy (SERS) experiments, will be used to probe the interface during the electrochemical reaction. Variations of vibration bands of the oxide and superoxide species would allow to compare different alkali-metals cations interactions with the active sites and correlate with the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) kinetics and mechanism.
