Abstract

This project has as its main objective to accomplish an analysis of Vincent van Gogh's work produced after his contact with the Parisian artistic scene and, most importantly, after his contact with the famous Japanese traditional gravures, Ukyo-e. Our purpose is to understand the influences of said French artistic and historical moment and, particularly, of the aesthetic and philosophical understanding of Japanese art in van Gogh's workmanship. For such, it will be analysed works related to the artist's technique, along with an approach towards the artistic thought through the reading of his correspondence with his brother, Theo van Gogh, and other correspondents. To certify the existence of a real approximation with the aesthetic thought existing in Japanese art, it will be analysed the concepts present in said artistic form of expression, and then they will be contrasted with the thinking in van Gogh's work.
