Abstract

Fixation systems are widely used for treatment in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and implantology. Among the systems, 2.0 mm screws are the most used, in combination with miniplates or even isolated. The screw failure during insertion or in a late period may occur due to torque overload, tension and/or bending. And it will result in fixation failure and damage to the patient. The knowledge of mechanical properties of these materials is essential in order to qualify, develop and determine the potential of the fixation system and its clinical application. The aim of this study is to perform a mechanical evaluation of two titanium alloys monocortical screws, placed in two substrates. Also to evaluate the screw surface through scanning electron microscope. (AU)
