Abstract

In this project, I propose to carry out a reading and analysis of the work "Itinerário para párocos de Índios", written in 1668 by Alonso de la Peña Montenegro (1596 - 1687), bishop of Quito. Through the analysis, I seek to discuss questions about the process of "conquest", formation and administration of consciences, which intended not only to consolidate Christian doctrine in local populations but also to introduce a certain form of discipline and political organization. From this, I propose an analysis that also considers the legal implications of the work, investigating the relations between Theology and the administration of Justice. Inserted in the general context of post-Tridentine Catholicism and the debates around the Moral Theology, De la Peña's Itinerary was characterized as a manual that helped the parish priests in the application of the sacraments in the American continent. The research will be oriented by Professor Rafael Ruiz, and is a part of the project "O probabilismo jurídico e a fundamentação das sentenças judiciais na América espanhola". (AU)
