Abstract

It is known that the increase in the number of industries, cities, and people causes a simultaneous increase in the use of our natural resources, so a good management and knowledge of our resources is essential to provide the least possible harm to the environment. In this context, this work proposes a tool for the management and knowledge of rivers. Each river has a capacity to withstand a certain amount of effluent and it is through the respiration of microorganisms that it manages to restore its natural conditions, this capacity is called self-purification. However, this capacity may be affected if the effluent shows toxicity, which increases the time and distance the river would degrade a certain amount of organic matter. Although the sewage discharge parameters are used in general, not all rivers have the same capacity of self-purification due to differences in the microbiota. This work proposes to develop a tool that can predict the impact of the effluent launched in the river due to its capacity of self-purification. We intend to adapt a method of evaluating the inhibition by toxic substances of bacteria of treatment plants (209 Activated Sludge, 1993 Respiration Inhibition Test of the OECD) for bacteria of rivers (microbiota) and in this way to be able to evaluate in the future the inhibition of the autodepuration caused by the Effluent in a river.
