Abstract

This project aims at investigating blockade effects (i.e., the presence of an excited atom preventing the excitation of its neighbours) in dilute atomic clouds where the light-mediated long-range interaction predominates. Spontaneous emission and interference effects then play an important role, differently from subwavelength systems of Rydberg atoms, yet the multiple scattering of light allows for remote atoms to exhibit correlations. During this internship, the student will both improve existing simulation schemes to simulate the dynamics of hundreds to thousands of spins, and use them to study the blockade effect through the transition from short- to long-range interaction.
