Abstract

The project studies, from an economic sociology and Pierre Bourdieu's relational sociology perspective, the fiscal adjustment carried out during Dilma Rousseff second term in office. (2015/2016). The aim of the study is to identify and explain the justifications produced by Dilma's government in order to give legitimacy to the implementation of the economic policies, considered in our perspective as a belief produced by orthodox economics. The methodology is based on speeches delivered by the president and the Finance Minister Joaquim Levy in defense of the adjustment policy. Finally, the study will seek to show that fiscal adjustment is a social phenomenon, the result of political options in a context where the agents use elements and categories rooted in the social fabric, in other words, it is a belief that needs social legitimacy to be reproduced.
