Abstract This research seeks to observe the processes of transformation of the city of São Paulo in the decades from 1930 and 1940 taking into account the proposals and the action of the impact of the Catholic Church in the city, through its executive arm, the Archdiocese. This is a problematical reading the grand narrative that defines how relentless the routethe cities of the sacred to the profane, showing that religious actors do not passively watched his power fade. It also shows that the process is complex, full tension and comings and goings, therefore deserving more careful analysis and more focused temporal indentations. The research will examine by creating parishes and churches, and conducting a mega religious event - the Fourth National Eucharistic Congress of 1942 - the attempt (largely successful measure) of territorial demarcation of the Catholic presence in the metropolitan region of São Paul, having as a coordinating agent Dom Jose Gaspar, then Archbishop of São Paulo.
