Abstract The present doctorate project intends to approach the concept of beauty in Sartre. Despite it is not obvious, since the French thinker never gave a definitive form to this concept, to postulate its existence is not something absurd, because the French philosopher refers to him in several occasions. Therefore, what is wanted in this research is precisely recapitulate the different approaches that Sartre offers to the beauty, trying to establish a connection between them, that is, seeking to unify them in what would have been his "theory of the beauty". The starting point for the investigation of this theory will be L'imaginaire, book in which Sartre operates a separation between the beautiful and the real, affirming that the beauty never reveals itself to the perception. From this, will we try to show through Qu'est-ce que la littérature? and the conference of Jean-Paul Sartre given at the Mackenzie University of São Paulo in 1960 ("Conferência de Jean-Paul Sartre - Universidade Mackenzie"), how the beauty is not something from nature, but from art, from a relation between artist and audience, from an intersubjective movement. Finally, we will try to show how, in L'être et le néant and in critical and biographical texts that Sartre writes about art, beauty is defined as value, but not necessarily as a perfect value, but as a declinable value that can be revealed even in the ugly.
