Abstract

Both Applicant and Host share a common interest in this proposal, whose research aims to describe the thermo-physical properties of a fluid and its dependence on temperature using an optically trapped gold nanoparticle as a point source of heat. Through laser excitation of near plasmonic resonance, we wish to control the heating rate to determine in a systematic approach, the critical success factors for the nanoparticles and the surrounding picoliter fluid properties. This project addresses open-ended issues of high scientific relevance, in photothermal and stochastic thermodynamics, the result of which will bring high visibility to the research groups on the international scene and enable collaboration between research groups.
