Abstract

The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of ethanol-wet-bonding (EWB) on dentin infiltration of a multimode self-etch adhesive (smear layer maintained), by means of nanohardness, elastic modulus and nanoleakage; besides the assessment of interface degradation after 6-month simulated aging. Forty eight bovine incisors which will have buccal dentin exposed and the smear layer standardized, will be divided into 2 groups, according to the use or not of ethanol prior to the application of the universal adhesive system in self-etch mode (Single Bond Universal - 3M ESPE). Then blocks of composite resin (Filtek Z350xt - 3M ESPE) will be made. However, half of specimens (n=12) will be stored in deionized water for 48 h to allow a post cure time of the adhesive. (1) The other half of each group will be stored in deionized water for 6 months to evaluate after aging. Two specimens from each group will be selected for Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) analysis. The remaining specimens will be divided in half, originating hemi-crowns. Since 10 hemi-crowns will have the adhesive interface qualitatively analyzed by SEM after nanoleakage by silver nitrate (Ag), before and after artificial aging. Finally, the other hemi-crowns will be analyzed by nanohardness and elastic modulus of the composite resin layer, adhesive layer, hybrid layer and dentin. The data obtained will be analyzed using two-way ANOVA of repeated measures and Tukey test, being that the tests will have a level of significance to 5%. (AU)
