Abstract

Considering the shortage of water in Brazil, the use of non-potable water in buildings has increased year by year, with a view to reducing the supply of potable water. To this end, there are three options of systems: decentralized individual, decentralized in cluster and centralized. In order to make the best choice are considered such variables as: acquisition costs and systems deployment, maintenance and operational costs, in addition to ensure the final quality of the produced water in order to preserve the health of users. Considering the costs, the risks to the health of users and the responsibilities of management that involves the use of a building of non-potable water system, the following question arises: in economic, environmental and social terms, would no longer be feasible the use of potable water in buildings instead of potable and non-potable water? Thus, the aim of this research project is to formulate mathematical models as for the only use of potable water in relation to the mixed use of potable water and non-potable, making it possible to optimize decision-making, by means of the main variables involved in the deployment, maintenance and operation of water treatment systems. For the development of this research project will be carried out bibliographical research, to collect data that allows to characterizing and comparing both centralized and decentralized systems, as the types of existing treatments. Furthermore, from the information gathered, will be employed to operational research to formulate mathematical models for decision-making. The expected results of the proposed research project are the most efficient analyses of problems involving building systems of centralized and decentralized non-potable water to the choice that results in better system performance in buildings.
