Abstract

Aquatic plants play an important role in the ecosystem, being their reproductive characteristics predominant in eutrophic environments, that is a common scenario for both national and international aquatic environments, mainly as a consequence of unplanned urbanization. In environments with great nutrient input, macrophytes reproduce rapidly and occupy extensive areas, preventing the water multiple uses. In this context, the use of surplus biomass of macrophytes constitutes an alternative as source of raw material for composting, since the chemical composition of the macrophyte biomass presents the necessary requirements for such a process, e.g. nutrients and organic matter.
