Abstract

This project proposes the study of a mechanical structure with its geometry characterized by a curve in piriform format. When the thinner part of the structure is clamped and a compression load is applied at the opposite end, the deformation may exhibit nonlinear behavior. In general the system nonlinear stiffness can be approximated to a third order polynomial. This type of systems are used in applications such as vibration isolation, for instance. In this context, this project proposes a study on the behavior of such system using the finite element method. Simplified experimental tests are proposed to support numerical simulations. (AU)
