Abstract

The citizen, when making daily use of computerized solutions, began to create traces of their behaviors, what can be understood as personal information because they refer to their acts and reveal physical or personality characteristics. This information is currently a troubling product of the surveillance market. However, there is still no discussion in Brazil that allows us to situate, in a more systematized way, personal information as something that is vulnerable to invasive or fraudulent actions. In this way, it is proposed to analyze and categorize the uses of personal information from the data leak perspective, with the following objectives: to identify, define and qualify personal information; to categorize the uses that are made from the data leaks or its improper disclosure; and to suggest ways of preventing the citizen from misusing its personal information. Based on the newspapers Folha de São Paulo, Estado de São Paulo and Nexo, and the specialized sites Olhar Digital, Tecmundo and Techtudo, in a temporal cut from 2009, a literature review on personal data, information market, information surveillance and data leaks will be carried out as well as a search in the databases LISA, Web of Science and Scopus, under the term "Leakage of personal data" whose data will be recorded and analyzed according to the methodology of Content Analysis (Bardin, 2009) in the categories: concept, nature, object, objectives, actions, instruments, products, agents and patients, to get an overview of the possible uses that can be made of the data when improperly disclosed as a subsidy to possible measures to protect the citizen against the misuse of their personal data.
