Abstract

Gliders are autonomous subsurface navigation platforms, with low energy consumption and great autonomy, capable of operating for months and covering distances of hundreds or thousands of nautical miles. During navigation, gliders perform vertical submergence and emersion trajectories, crossing columns of water with thicknesses typically between 50 m and 1000 m. Thus, when instrumented with sensors, gliders are ideal platforms for collecting three-dimensional marine environmental data in the ocean space. The present plan of research of Scientific Initiation aims at the development of a simplified mathematical model of the dynamics of a glider, applying it to existing units in the Institute of Oceanography of USP.
