Abstract

Objectives: To evaluate different polishing systems effect on gloss and surface roughness of composite resin and to correlate in vitro with clinical gloss and roughness analysis. Material and Methods: Fifteen cylindrical specimens of composite resin will be prepared in silicone molds and will be divided into two groups according to the polishing system: Sof-Lex Spiral - 3M ESPE (two steps) and Dimanto - VOCO (one step). Fifty direct laminate veneers will be made in patients, using the same resin, and will be divided into two groups, using the same polishing systems. Spectral gloss, superficial roughness measures and subjective evaluations of gloss will be done. Specimens will be submitted to aging induced by water for six months after polishing. Roughness and gloss subjective analysis will be compared with data that will be obtained in clinical research that will be performed at the same time. The descriptive statistics will be calculated by the arithmetic mean and standard deviation. Data will be subjected to normality tests, and appropriate statistical tests will be applied. (AU)
