Evaluation of quality of life of women hit by breast cancer

Abstract

Breast cancer is a worldwide concern. The lifetime, as well as the quality of life (QV) of women treated with breast cancer has increased with the effectiveness of treatments and mainly with early diagnosis. The objective of this study will be to investigate the quality of life of women involved of breast cancer that have undergone treatments, live with the illness and do not attend groups of support and compare the QV established with other women in similar situations, but that are part of a group. It is a quantitative transversal study, whose data collection will be given from a sample of convenience with women contacted at the Ambulatory Oncology center of the State Hospital Bauru (HEB) "Dr. Arnaldo Prado Curvêllo", administered by FAMESP-Foundation for Medical and hospital development in the municipality of Bauru-sp. will participate in the interviews, at least 50 women aged between 18 and 65 years , with a diagnosis of breast cancer, which went through surgical intervention, completed the treatment Radioterápico and/or chemotherapy for at least one year, they do not attend support groups and to sign the term of free and clarified consent. Data will be used for 50 women who are part of a support group coming from the study "quality of life of women's breast cancer members of the Bauru Bosom Friends Association". The Sociodemográfica characterisation questionnaires will be applied, risk factors and lifestyle and the QV will be collected by the SF-36. The groups of women, frequenters and non-frequenters of support groups will be compared to the domains of QV, through the Mann Whitney Test, at the level of 5% of significance. (AU)
