Abstract

Melasma is a pigmentary disorder caused by hypermelanosis of the skin. This disease is characterized by brownish, symmetrically and asymptomatic macules distributed on sun-exposed areas of the body. It appears particularly on the face of women during the menacme, confirming the influence of solar radiation and sexual hormones on melasma development. Although the disease does not cause fisical damage or threat for life, it has a negative impact on the quality of life of patients due to the effect on appearance. To better understand the impact of the disease on quality of life, is required to measure the quality of life, what can be done by general and specific instruments. The aim of this project is to compare the performance of two general instruments (WHOQOL BREF and SKINDEX-16) and one specific instrument (HRQ-melasma) in the assessment of the quality of life of patients with melasma. Data collection will be performed using an instrument consisting four parts, the first composed by clinical-demographic data, follow by the WHOQOL BREF, SKINDEX-16 and HRQ-melasma. Will be interviewed 150 patients attended in the dermatology outpatient clinic and subsequently submitted the data to classic psychometric and item response theory analysis. (AU)
