Abstract

The context that situates the discussions related to the representation of information has always been marked by technological influence in the field of Information Science, the constant development of technologies and the exponential advance in the amount of information available in digital environments have led to a stage where the classic models of organization and representation need to be rethought under new perspectives. Among the new instruments of representation the standard Simple Knowledge Organization System - SKOS has emerged as a data model that makes it possible to formally represent controlled vocabularies in digital environments. The use of the SKOS standard allows conceptual resources to be referenced from applications based technologies that allow the exploration of the semantic aspects of the contents. The proposed project aims to evaluate the use of the SKOS standard for the representation of controlled vocabularies, analyzing theoretical and methodological aspects that can contribute to the development and use of this new category of representation systems, based on the systematization of guidelines that favor a better understanding of their potentialities. Considering the need for a better understanding of this model, it is proposed to conduct a theoretical and methodological research, qualitative approach and exploratory which proposes to examine themes of representation, organization, semantic technologies and provision of vocabularies in environments digital. We stress the importance of research, considering that the SKOS model plead the emergence of a new highly interdisciplinary research field, capable of engendering a new epistemological constellation in the field of organization and representation of information, pointing innovative perspectives and new possibilities in the professional area of Information Science, justifying the development of this project and characterized as a fertile field for research.
