Abstract

Green própolis has received considerable attention due to the multiple applications, including therapeutic properties against the proliferation of tumor cells. Artepillin C is the major component of própolis and its antitumor activity have been the focus of many studies. However, the incorporation effects of Artepillin C into the culture of cancer cells have not yet been explored. Herein, we shall investigate the cellular cytotoxicity of Artepillin C in cells derived from the oropharyngeal carcinoma (HEp-2). Cytotoxicity tests will be performed with the addition of different concentrations (10-3 to 10-6 mol/L) of Artepillin C, diluted in methanol and F12 DMEM culture medium, into the in vitro culture of HEp-2 cells. The influence of different incubation times (12, 24 and 48h) on the cell culture will also be evaluated in order to ensure its therapeutic use. In addition, broad-field and confocal fluorescence microscopies will be performed to analyze the cellular morphology and flow cytometry to determine the cellular death processes. (AU)
