Abstract

Education issues have been a worldwide research subject, with the purpose of reaching and finding a model of teaching excellence. Many authors point to the lack of financial assistance from the government as one of the main obstacles to a better quality of education and social development. Between 2005 and 2013, investments in basic education in Brazil increased by 82%, but according to PISA, one of the international indicators that measure education quality, Brazil has regressed in its indicator Thus, this research has the purpose of evaluating the types of investments that are most efficient at improving the quality of education in the countries analyzed, with particular focus in Brazil. In addition, an analysis is made to observe how investments reflect the development of the country through a Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) in two stages. Emrouznejad and Yang (2017) point out that the DEA has already been cited in more than 400 articles and it is an important analysis tool. Its application takes place in different contexts: education, health, transportation, agriculture and armed forces, among others. Finally, it is also possible to analyze which countries are better at generating economic growth and which are the techniques adopted. Thus, this is a research for a better understanding of the educational system and of models that can be implemented in Brazil. (AU)
