Abstract

The web is an environment where people post and search any type of information of the most diverse topics. However, the information found in the web is not always truthful. There are some malicious users who post deceptive information with the intention to manipulate or deceive people. One of the ways to detect false information is using text processing. Nowadays there are studies directed to the English language to identify deceptive texts, but there are few related work concerning the Portuguese language. Our thesis is that the Portuguese language can present specific and possibly different characteristics than the English. Therefore, the goal of this project is to analyze and characterize intentionally deceitful text written in Portuguese using text processing methods. This goal will be achieved through the extraction of textual features supported by both, the Linguistic and Psycholinguistic computable approaches. We also foresee to contribute with a classification approach using supervised machine learning algorithms. (AU)
