Study of MLH3 and ATM genes expression in oral squamous cell carcinoma

Abstract

The present study aims to evaluate the repair of DNA in cases of squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), through the evaluation of important genes that in this process. Two groups will be composed for such analysis. Group 1: 30 fragments of SCC samples; Group 2: 30 fragments of oral tissue with a clinical aspect of normality obtained by the removal of specimens of mucosa from extraction surgery of included third molar equivalent in sex and age to patients in group 1. Gene expression will be evaluated through the qPCR for the repair genes MLH3 and ATM and for protein by immunohistochemical analysis. All the results will be correlated with clinical-pathological data in cases of SCC. The data will be statistically analyzed using GraphPad Prism 5.03 software. Gene expression will be analysed using Student's t-test and protein expression by Fisher's exact test, with p <0.05 indicating a significant difference. Associations between gene expression levels and clinical data will be analyzed using the Pearson correlation coefficient.
