Abstract

This work will evaluate the effects of shear strength of sandy soil by the inclusion of different sizes and percentages of polyethylene fibers. The soil used will be sandy soil typical of the Bauru region (SP). The fibers shall be strips drawn from disposable bottles of lengths of 10, 15, 20 and 30 mm and a width of 1,5 mm. These will be randomly added to the soil in predetermined percentages of 0.75; 1.0; 1.5 and 2.0%, in relation to the dry mass. The cement will be added in percentages of 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10% in relation to the dry mass. Compaction tests (Proctor Normal) will be performed to obtain optimum soil parameters with the addition of cement in different percentages. With these values, specimens will be molded to perform direct shear tests in the cemented soil (with and without fibers) in degree of compaction of 95%. These tests will be performed in the condition of natural moisture and saturation. This proposal aims to complement research already in progress (Fapesp Processes numbers: 2016 / 09677-1 and 2016 / 18625-5). In this way, it will be possible to verify by means of the comparison of the obtained results, the influence that the dimensions and percentages of the fibers and percentages of cement can cause in the shear strength of the sandy soil.
