Abstract

This proposal for a semester at Johannes Gutenberg Universität in Mainz is part of a broader research (currently developed jointly with University of São Paulo) that investigates in Schopenhauer's philosophy how the Will, wich gives organic unity to the world as representation, can be conveyed in a philosophical discourse. The problem presented here is still little explored and refers to a conflicting point of his philosophy, namely: Being the language linear and submitted to the principle of reason, how could this give expression to a nonrepresentational reality? As our partial research shows, Schopenhauer submits philosophical discourse, as well as reason, to such a twist that it is moved away from its architectural qualities, hence creating a mutual dependence between the whole and its parts. With this framework, the research internship abroad has two purposes: discuss its results with Professor Matthias Kossler as well as to develop it in collaboration with the Schopenhauer-Forschungsstelle, directed by him; in addition, carry out an extensive bibliographical research for the project as a whole at Johannes Gutenberg Universität and at Schopenhauer Archiv in Frankfurt, specialized in the philosopher.
