Abstract Chelodesmidae belongs to the largest and most easily recognizable order Polydesmida, with approximately 5000 species in 31 families. It is the second largest family in the Diplopoda class, with approximately 800 species, just behind Paradoxosomatidae with 975 species. Chelodesmidae is divided into two subfamilies, Chelodesminae, for Neotropical species, and Prepodesminae for members inhabiting the forests of West Africa. Currently, 19 tribes are described for Chelodesminae and among them Arthrosolaenomeridini, which will be the target of the present study. The tribe is diagnosed by the absence of coxal apophysis in the gonopod; laminated telopodite with a cingulum on the lateral margin; prefemoral process of the gonopod long and thin with a dorsal basal lobe and anterior sternites with four conical lobes. Arthrosolaenomeridini comprises three genera: Arthrosolaenomeris Schubart, 1943 (2 spp.), Angelodesmus Schubart, 1962 (4 spp.) And Gangugia Schubart, 1947 (2 spp.). This project has as main objective the taxonomic revision of Arthrosolaenomeridini, besides proposing a hypothesis of phylogenetic relationships, based on morphological characters, among the species of the group based on their relations with the related groups. | |
