Abstract

This project aims to study the problem of laying cylinders within a furnace, which is commonly found in the ceramic industry. We consider that shelves can be placed in the furnace, which means the cylinders can be laid in different stores and the furnace occupation can be improved. Our goal is to develop and computationally implement a new heuristic to solve this problem. To do so, heuristics for solving this problem and similar ones present in the literature will be studied, which will be used as inspiration and basis for comparison of the proposed heuristic.
