Abstract

This research intends to study the musicking of the Praça Kantuta, São Paulo (SP), a square in São Paulo's city center that became known as a meeting place for the more than 100.000 Bolivian migrants that live in the city. Located in the Canindé neighborhood, the Praça Kantuta houses a traditional fair in which several groups rehearse and perform on Sundays. By mapping the activities related to the musicking of the visitors of this square, we will seek to understand how Communities of Practice (Wenger, 1998) are formed and maintained in this context, as well as how they relate to the organization of the migrant community as a whole. To do so, in situ fieldwork, with participant observation, interviews and focus groups will be conducted.
