Abstract

Anal incontinence represents a problem of public health and affects the patient's quality of life in regards to physical, psychological and social spheres. There is a tendency that sintomatic people do not seek help from health professionals due to embarrassement of this condition or do not report these symptoms to health professionals during an appointment, making this an underdiagnosed condition. It is known that quality of life is under the influence status and grade of anal continence, although this is not always true, since social factors can also affect this quality of life. Different kinds of scales of anal incontinence were created and are used, as well as different questionnaires about quality of life. Objectives: To evaluate the relation between the prevalence of anal incontinence and its grades of gravity in a population from a secondary care clinic and the real impact of symptoms in quality of lif of those individualse, using quantitative and qualitative scores (of symptons and of quality of life). Metodology: This is a transversal analytic study, with the application of questionnaires in patients from a secondary care clinic (Medical Specialities Ambulatory of Barretos - AME). Two questionnaires, already validated in medical literature, will be applied (Jorge-Wexner Anal Incontinence Scale and Fecal Incontinence Quality of Life - FIQL), as well as a personal and medical health survey. The number of patients interrogated is based on a non-probabilistic, convenience (600 patients) sample. To relation between the quality of life and severity of symptoms will be measured by Kruskall-Walis test or ANOVA, based on data characteristics (nomality and homogeneity variances).
