Abstract

As part of the Pro-Planta thematic project, the current research proposal intends to study the interaction of Xanthomonas citri/Citrus-host based on the metabolomic profiles of infected plants, and also the effects antimicrobials generated by the group have in the bacterium. Plants of Citrus sinensis will be artificially infected with the bacterium Xanthomonas citri and after subjected to metabolomic analyses in order to identify chemical substances produced and/or re-configured in response to the infection. In addition, Xanthomonas citri will be exposed to antimicrobial agents generated by the group and after we intend to analyze its metabolic profile to tentatively characterize the mechanisms of action of such compounds. Data generated can contribute to a better comprehension of host-response after bacterium challenge and how antimicrobials target the bacterial pathogen.
