Abstract

Objective: to evaluate the cytotoxicity and the effect of sanitizing solutions on the surface topography of aligners. Materials and Methods: the test specimens will be obtained from invisible aligners made for patients, but never used, which will be divided into the central median line, n= 10 specimens and n=12 for the cytotoxicity (with a power of 80%). Each group with 23 aligners will be immersed in a substance, namely: chlorhexidine gluconate, sodium hypochlorite, sodium perborate and orthophosphoric acid, in addition to the control group that will be immersed in saline solution. Immersions will be 20 minutes, except for orthophosphoric acid which will be brushed for 15 seconds and rinsed under running water for 15 seconds (As directed by manufacturers). The roughness will be measured before, seven and fourteen days later, with the use of a digital optical profilometer, in order to obtain qualitative and quantitative data to characterize the surface texture in the same equipment. Cytotoxicity will be assessed by the reduction of MTT. The statistical design will be obtained by test of repeated measures of variance analysis and Tukey's multiple comparison test.
