Abstract

Along the montane regions of southern Atlantic Forest there is a gap of more than 300km wide without areas above 1000 m. The absence of montane habitats in this region is suitableto test diversification hypotheses regarding historical connections among currently isolatedmountain ranges as well as the effects of ecological traits related to dispersion abilities of the focal taxa. In this proposal, we aim to characterize the population structure and demographic history of birds along these southern AF mountain ranges, testing diversification hypotheses regarding the assemblage of this community. Subgenomic data sets and newly developed analytical tools that incorporate more complex scenarios and parameters will be explored in collaboration with one of the leading groups in this research area, during a six-month internship at the department of Ornithology of the American Museum of Natural History.
