Abstract

Behçet's disease (DB) is a systemic inflammatory disease classified as vasculitis of variable vessels, which can affect vessels of all sizes and types. The main clinical manifestations in DB are oral ulcers, genital ulcers, cutaneous lesions, ocular inflammation, and other such as vascular, gastrointestinal, and neurological impairments. It is believed that the pathogenesis of the disease depends on the interaction of genetic factors, such as the presence of the HLA-B*51 genetic marker, and environmental factors, moreover infectious agents are the most associated factor with the disease. Mucocutaneous manifestations are common DB symptoms that do not represent a risk of mortality or morbidity; however, they are important for the diagnosis of the disease and can cause considerable discomfort for the performance of daily life activities. No detailed information is available for such manifestations, with the existing disease activity indexes, limiting the choice of ideal treatment and the determination of the DB mucocutaneous activity. The mucocutaneous index was developed to measure this activity and correlates, in a significant way, with the scores observed in indexes of disease activity already validated. Objectives: To evaluate associations between the Mucocutaneous Index and the clinical manifestations of DB, measured by the Brazilian Version of the Behçet's Disease Current Activity Form (BR-BDCAF) instrument, and to evaluate the impact of the mucocutaneous activity of the disease on the working capacity of the Work Productivity and Activity Impairment - General Health (WPAI-GH) instrument, besides evaluating the impact of the therapy on the mucocutaneous index. Methods: A cross-sectional study will be carried out, including 100 patients diagnosed with DB. The following inclusion criteria will be adopted: diagnosis of DB by the criteria of the International Study Group (ISG), age e 18 years and consent to participate in the study. The index consists of the evaluation of the disease activity related to oral ulcers, genital ulcers, and erythema nodosum in DB.
