Abstract

In order to establish the base population for a breeding program, we will carry out the genetic evaluation of economic traits of a commercial tilapia population. The work will be carried out at Fish Brazilian Industry (IBP) farm, in the unit placed in Itupeva (SP). The base population of the breeding program will come from two different tilapia strains. Breeders of the two strains will be mated in a hierarchical scheme, one male for two females, with a total of 32 females and 16 males, producing 32 full-sib and 16 of half-sib families. 50 fish of each family, after reaching an average weight greater than 10 grams, will be identified by means of microchips and then transferred to the farm system in ponds for the performance test, which will have a period of 150 days. At the end of the test period the fish will be weighed and measured in Standard and Head Length, and in Body Height and Width. With the data set, bicarater analyzes will be performed to estimate the components of (co) variance of weight and morphometric measurements, analyzed two to two, using an animal model with fixed effects of ponds and sex, and additive genetic and common environmental random effects. The heritabilities and the common environment effect for each trait separately will be estimated using the (co) variance components, in addition to the genetic correlations and the correlation response to the selection between weight and each of the morphometric measures will be also estimated.
